# Connect the Claude app or Cowork to Rakuten Shared Memory For Rakuten colleagues using the Claude app (desktop or web) or Cowork. There is no token to copy: you sign in with your Rakuten email address. Using Claude Code or Codex instead? See [the Claude Code setup](https://memory.rmgops.com/setup/claude-code) or [the Codex setup](https://memory.rmgops.com/setup/codex). The [illustrated user guide](https://memory.rmgops.com/guide) explains the features. Setup help: Rich Masters ([richard.masters@rakuten.com](mailto:richard.masters@rakuten.com)). ## Before you start Anyone who can sign in to the Shared Memory web app with a Rakuten email address can connect from the Claude app. You need access to your `@rakuten.com` inbox. ## 1. Add the connector 1. In the Claude app, open **Settings**, then **Connectors**. 2. Select **Add custom connector**. 3. Name it `Shared Memory` and enter the URL `https://memory.rmgops.com/mcp`. Leave any client ID and secret fields empty. 4. Select **Add**. ## 2. Sign in 1. Select **Connect** on the new connector. A Shared Memory sign-in page opens. 2. Enter your Rakuten email address. Open the email and select the link (it works once and expires after 15 minutes). 3. Approve the connection when asked. You return to the Claude app with the connector connected. **Known issue:** after adding the connector, it can show **Disconnect** with no tools listed. Select **Disconnect**, then **Connect**: that starts the sign-in. You stay signed in for up to 90 days. If the connector stops working, select **Disconnect** and **Connect** again to sign in afresh. ## 3. Check the connection without saving anything Start a new chat with the connector turned on, and ask: > Check whether Shared Memory is connected. Use list_scopes as a read-only test and tell me whether it worked. Don't save, edit or delete anything. You're done when the `list_scopes` call succeeds. If you see only **Your notes**, that's normal: you see a shared scope once its owner adds you. Don't test by saving a sample record. ## Using it Ask in plain language, for example "what do we know about this account?" or "save that the renewal moved to March, from today's call". Claude checks for an existing record first, picks the scope whose subject fits (or asks you), and says what it saved and where. The Claude app has no hooks, so there is no automatic brief at the start of a chat and no save reminders: ask Claude to "check Shared Memory" when it matters. Typing `#memory off`, `#memory read-only` or `#memory on` in a message asks Claude to change how it uses memory for that chat; nothing enforces it in the app. ### What never to store Never store: card and bank numbers, tax IDs, payment details, transaction-level client data, clients' customers' personal data (consumer emails, phone numbers, order-level data), credentials, and opinions or personal details about named people beyond their working role. Client contacts: names and roles only where the fact needs them; contact details stay in Salesforce. Label anything that identifies a person confidential or above. The service checks saves for card, bank, tax ID, phone and non-staff email patterns. ### Before building an AI agent or automation Ask Claude to check first ("check whether this already exists before we build it"). It compares your idea with what it can reach of the AiA automation catalogue and Mirai, then with Shared Memory's initiative records, and records the outcome. Your prompt is never stored, only a short purpose. ## Troubleshooting - **Connector shows Disconnect but no tools.** Select **Disconnect**, then **Connect**, and complete the sign-in. - **Sign-in says you're not allowed.** Check that you signed in with your `@rakuten.com` address, the same one you use for the web app. If it still fails, contact Rich. - **The sign-in email didn't arrive.** Check junk or spam and that you entered your `@rakuten.com` address, then request another link. - **Tools stopped working after a while.** Your sign-in has lapsed: **Disconnect** and **Connect** again. - **After a Shared Memory update, a tool refuses a value or says a field is missing.** The app is still using the old tool list. **Disconnect** and **Connect** again, then start a new chat.
